Top 5 Bass Fishing Lakes in West Virginia

West Virginia offers many great fishing spots. One of the most enjoyable challenges in fishing is targeting Bass. Bass fishing has become ever increasingly popular and while there are many quality spots available, West Virginia offers five incredible Bass fishing lakes.

Stonewall Jackson Lake is by far the best Bass fishing lake in West Virginia and perhaps tops in the country. This 2,500 acre lake boasts of some of the largest Bass catches that fishermen has ever experienced. With plenty of parking and lodging along the lake, you have no reason to miss out on a trip to Stonewall Jackson Lake.

Woodrum Lake near Ripley is a small 250 acre lake that is perfect for a relaxing day of fishing. This lake employs a 10 horsepower motor limit and boasts of many no wake zones providing some non skittish fish and a prime territory for breading the larger Bass.

O’Brien Lake is just 10 miles north of Woodrum lake and offers many of the same amazing benefits. However, if you find the lack of luxury of Woodrum unappealing, Woodrum has more traffic and is more easily accessible.

Summersville Lake is another massive 2,700 acre lake that offers a beautiful trip. The shores of the lake offer sandy beaches and also many majestic cliffs. The south end of the lake, near the dam, is prime for lure fishing. Being the deepest part of the lake it houses many different types of fish but is most notable for the schools of Bass that accompany the area.

Moncove Lake is a very shallow lake and small at only 144 acres. Being as it doesn’t look like much more than a grassy pond to some, few fishermen accompany this lake. However, due to low number of fishermen, this lake is overrunning with Bass. If you are looking for the big haul, Monocave Lake is your perfect destination.
