There is no greater test of both skill and patience than the one felt during fishing. It takes a special kind of strength and discipline to awaken early enough to coordinate the trip and catch the big one.

Those of you looking to catch the biggest bass aren’t going to want to miss these helpful tips and tricks. Why waste money on expensive books and tapes when you can fire up internet.clear and get all the tips you need right here?

1. A good lure
In some of the clearer bodies of water in West Virginia, you’ll want to make sure you use a dark colored crankbait, spoon or spinner. You want to grab the bass’s attention and they need to be able to see what’s happened.

2. Follow the schools of bait fish
One of the best indicators of a possible large bass hunting ground is the presence of a large school of bait fish. Nothing draws a hungry hunter like these hordes of tiny fish and if you are able to find one, then chances are a large bass isn’t far away.

3. Probe
If the bass are being elusive, try probing deep structures with spinners and spoons.

If you are going to be bass fishing in West Virginia there are some things you should know to make your trip more pleasurable and successful. If you want to go boat fishing and are new to the sport, you should consider going with a bass fishing party group. It certainly sounds like a lot of fun. Also, fishermen will help you out and if you are new you could use all the help you can get.

West Virginia is arguably the best state to catch small mouth bass. There are various tips you can use to find them easily. Artificial bait that is comparable to minnows or shad will work for attracting the bass. However, in the summer through the fall season the bass likes crayfish so you may want to change the bait that you are using. Once you have the bait though you are going to want to know where to find them.

The South Branch of the Potomac is noted as one of the best places to fish for the bass. The spots starting at the Fisher bridge to Old Fields bridge are known to be some of the best waters. Don’t be surprised if you have company when you visit this area. Summersville and Tygart lakes will also make you a happy angler.

If you are fishing during the summertime it is best to position yourself in shaded areas. The bass steer clear of the sunlight and can also be found under cover. Even though this is the case, what is better than relaxing under the shaded area and fishing?

Before you start fishing, however, you need to verify what the rules are in place for the area you are fishing in. The rules are different. Of course you will also have to get a license to be able to do your fishing.

West Virginia is home to some of the top bass fishing spots in the United States with one of the favored locations being Stonewall Jackson Lake. This lake developed under the auspices of the Army Corps of Engineers boasts the preservation of the natural habitat for optimal growth and development of large mouth bass. Even though Stonewall Jackson Lake, which opened in 1989, has a catch and release only restriction, the average catch of a 4-6lb bass affords great fishing stories for anglers.

Along the Kanawha River, dams in the London, Marmat and Winfield area, created by the Army Corps of Engineers are known to attract large schools of bass to heavily visited feeding areas. Steel piers provide top-notch fishing access. This area is known for hybrid stripped bass averaging 3-7 pounds.

Woodrum Lake in the Ripley, West Virginia area is known for its clear water and narrow creek bed. This lake was developed and enhanced under the auspices of the US Soil Conservation Service.

New River Gorge is a mecca or small mouth bass enthusiasts. Highly qualified guides are available to ply the waters while offering a wealth of bass fishing tips. This area participates in the catch-release program.
